L3Harris Technologies announced on April 18 that it has received an award of
option year five of the Maintenance Of Space Situational Awareness
Integrated Capabilities (MOSSAIC) program.
The contract, worth up to $187 million from the U.S. Space Force, continues
the modernization and sustainment of critical space infrastructure
enabling the Space Force core competency of space domain awareness.
In support of the U.S. military’s space surveillance and command centers
in Colorado, California and Virginia, MOSSAIC detects, tracks and identifies
deep space objects to provide timely and accurate space surveillance
information for military, civil and commercial users.
2. [Air] New Zealand’s new C-130J Hercules to arrive later this year
New Zealand Ministry of Defence announced on April 5 that,
after 18 months construction, New Zealand’s first Lockheed Martin C-130J Hercules
successfully took its first test flight over Georgia and Alabama, USA, in early April,
marking a significant milestone in the project to replace the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF)’s
existing Hercules fleet, which has been in operation since the 1960’s.
There will be five Hercules in the new fleet, which are on track to start arriving
in New Zealand later this year. The existing Hercules fleet has long been an essential
first response option for the New Zealand Defence Force, whether deployed
on humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations, on supply missions
to Antarctica, or to conflict zones like Afghanistan and East Timor.
3. [Land] Germany procures more Night Vision Goggles
OCCAR (Organisation Conjointe de Coopération en matière d'Armement /
The Organisation for Joint Armament Cooperation) announced on April 15
that OCCAR-EA (Executive Administration) has signed a third amendment
to the Night Vision Goggles Contract on behalf of Belgium and Germany
for the procurement of additional Night Vision Goggles and In-Service Support
with the Consortium of Hensoldt Optronics GmbH and THEON Sensors SA.
The Night Vision Goggles (NVG) Contract Amendment No. 3 includes an additional
16,041 MIKRON NVG Sets, 8,423 Head Mounting Systems for Germany and
an initial In-Service Support for the additional German NVG sets.
4. [Sea] Kongsberg’s equipment selected by shipyards in U.S., Netherlands
Kongsberg Maritime announced on April 18 that it has been selected
to supply controllable pitch propellers and shaft lines to shipbuilder
Damen Naval for a series of four Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) frigates,
which are under current construction for the Netherlands and Belgium.
ASWF will replace the current Karel Doorman-class multi-purpose frigates,
with the first ship to be delivered by Damen Naval in 2028.
Austal USA has selected Kongsberg to supply its Promas propulsion system
to the latest ship in the United States Coast Guard’s new Offshore Patrol Cutter (OPC)
Heritage Class programme.
5. [Industry] CACI wins $1.3B order to provide IT solutions, expertise to US Europe, Africa Command
CACI International Inc announced on April 22 that it has been awarded a five-year
task order worth a total estimated value of $1.3 billion to provide communications
and information technology expertise to U.S. European Command (USEUCOM)
and U.S. Africa Command (USAFRICOM).
This work continues and expands CACI’s current relationship with these two commands,
service component commands, and associated staff elements and organizations,
by providing innovative IT solutions and expertise tailored to their missions
to execute global multi-domain operations with NATO, allies,
and mission partners to prevent conflict and respond in crisis.
